Chelsea Guest Bedroom

Proof that restraint multiplies space, this Chelsea guest bedroom transforms a modest footprint into an experience of considered luxury through mirrored surfaces, pale oak, and a single wall of hand-printed botanical wallpaper.

Small Rooms, Large Gestures

The room measures just under twelve square metres — barely enough for a double bed and a wardrobe in a conventional layout. Rather than shrinking the furniture to fit, we restructured the room itself. A full-height mirrored niche was carved into the wall opposite the window, creating a dressing area that doubles the perceived depth of the space and bounces daylight deep into the room’s interior.

The wallpaper — a hand-block-printed botanical by a Sussex studio — wraps a single wall behind the headboard. Its delicate fern motif in faded sage and cream gives the room a sense of place without overwhelming the small volume. The remaining three walls are finished in a warm matte plaster that recedes, letting the pattern wall do all the talking.

Details That Disappear

Storage is handled by a floor-to-ceiling joinery unit in pale oak that lines the entry wall. Push-latch doors eliminate visible hardware, and the unit’s depth is calibrated to the centimetre so the door swing clears the bed frame. Inside: a full-length hanging rail, adjustable shelves, and a pull-out luggage bench — everything a guest needs, nothing they have to see.

  • Mirrored dressing niche with integrated LED strip at 3000K
  • Hand-block-printed botanical wallpaper by a Sussex artisan studio
  • Pale quarter-sawn oak flooring and bespoke joinery
  • Push-latch cabinetry with concealed pull-out luggage bench

Every guest we have had asks who designed the room. It feels twice its actual size — and far more considered than any hotel.
