A sanctuary of quiet restraint, this Kensington master suite balances the warmth of natural walnut millwork against the softness of hand-finished ivory linen, creating a bedroom that feels both grounded and weightless in equal measure.
The Brief
The Ashworths came to us after a decade in their Georgian terrace, ready to reimagine the principal bedroom as a retreat from the pace of city life. Their one non-negotiable: every surface had to invite touch. Cold metals, glossy finishes, and sharp angles were out. What remained was an exercise in softness calibrated to the millimetre.
We began with the headboard — a bespoke piece upholstered in brushed Belgian linen, stretched across a curved timber frame that wraps the bed like a protective shell. Its gentle arc became the room’s organising gesture, setting the radius for the bedside joinery and the arched doorway to the en suite beyond.
Material Palette
American black walnut runs floor-to-ceiling as a feature panel behind the bed, its grain book-matched across four slabs for visual continuity. The remaining walls wear a proprietary lime wash in a shade we developed with the client — somewhere between parchment and raw plaster, warm enough to hold candlelight without yellowing in daylight.

The brass reading lamps, cast by a foundry in the Cotswolds, are the room’s only metallic note — their unlacquered surfaces will patina over years of use, ageing alongside the walnut and the linen, growing more personal with every season.
